What I've Read Recently..and what's next

(Click on the titles to read the Synopsis on Goodreads!)

My Rating: 3 out of 5 stars
I received this book through Blogging For Books and really had high hopes about it.  I ended up being a bit disappointed with it.  The fashion tips were actually really great but the outfit photos they put together were a little bit "much" in my opinion.  You can read my full review HERE

My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
This is considered a "young adult" novel so it has very short chapters and is an easy read.  I really loved the main character, Lara Jean.  I could definitely relate a lot to her, being kind of awkward about love in my teenage years too.  It was filled with some funny moments and it kind of read like something you would see in a movie.  I really enjoyed this one.

My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
If you've seen or heard about the movie Gone Girl then you know this author loves to keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat.  I had a hard time putting this one down.  You always want need to know what's going to happen next. A lot of the characters have this very unlikable quality about them but you somehow still end up rooting for the main character Libby.

I just started this one so I can't give a review yet but it is basically about a man that gets stranded on Mars after his mission goes wrong.  They are going to be releasing the movie (starring Matt Damon) in November this year, so I wanted to read it before I see the movie.

Here's what you need to know about my "to read" list above..  I go to my local library a lot to trade in books that I read and didn't care for, and also to look at the section of books on sale.  They sell books between ten cents to fifty cents, so I stock up.  There are a ton of newly released books that I would love to read but I can't always afford to buy the newer ones.  So I'm sorry if you are looking here for the newest book releases because unfortunately I don't usually get them.  Sorry!!  BUT I do list new ones on my Goodreads that I want to read and I try to keep an eye out for them at the library or if I have a little extra money to pick out a new one.

Hush by Kate White
When Lake Warren learns that her husband, Jack, is suing for full custody of their two kids four months after their separation, she's pretty certain that things can't get any worse. The upside is that she's working with the Advanced Fertility Center as a marketing consultant, alongside the attractive, flirtatious Dr. Keaton. But the morning after their one-night stand, Lake finds Keaton with his throat slashed and discovers that things can indeed become worse—they can become deadly.

So as not to jeopardize her case for custody, Lake is forced to lie to the police. Having just been intimate with a man who has been murdered, and wanting to protect herself from being charged with the crime, she begins her own search for the truth. Meanwhile, the police start looking at her closely, people at the clinic start treating her with hostility, and strange clues begin dropping—quite literally—on her doorstep, and Lake realizes that she is dangerously close to dark secrets, both about Keaton and the clinic. But can Lake stop what she's started before it's too late?

Best Friends Forever by Jennifer Weiner
One of the nation’s most beloved and successful writers of women’s fiction, Jennifer Weiner has become a literary phenomenon with millions of copies of her books in print. Her latest work, Best Friends Forever will delight fans and critics alike, following the ups and downs of a long-time friendship between two young girls who grow up to be two very different women. Addie Downs and Valerie Adler were eight when they first met and decided to be best friends forever. But, in the wake of tragedy and betrayal during their teenage years, everything changed. Val went on to fame and fortune. Addie stayed behind in their small Midwestern town. Destiny, however, had more in store for these two. And when, twenty-five years later, Val shows up at Addie’s front door with blood on her coat and terror on her face, it is the beginning of a wild adventure for two women joined by love and history who find strength together that they could not find alone

Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
In her early thirties, Elizabeth Gilbert had everything a modern American woman was supposed to want--husband, country home, successful career--but instead of feeling happy and fulfilled, she felt consumed by panic and confusion. This wise and rapturous book is the story of how she left behind all these outward marks of success, and of what she found in their place. Following a divorce and a crushing depression, Gilbert set out to examine three different aspects of her nature, set against the backdrop of three different cultures: pleasure in Italy, devotion in India, and on the Indonesian island of Bali, a balance between worldly enjoyment and divine transcendence.

Have you read any of these books??  Do you have any book suggestions for me?

  4. The Jenny Han book is really great if you are looking for an easy read, and the Gillian Flynn one is great if you love a good mystery/thriller.

  6. I can't wait to see the Dark Places movie later this year. Charlize Theron is going to be the main character and I think she'll be perfect for the part.

  9. I used to read all the time and I definitely got out of the habit of it. I'm trying to make more time for it now. I try to read a little bit each night before bed to help get my eyes tired. It definitely makes for interesting dreams sometimes though. haha

  10. adding the Jenny Han book - I haven't read Dark Places yet but its on the list. I seriously LOVED The Martian, like blew my mind. It might have been because my expectations were ridiculously absurdly low, but my husband enjoyed it too. Hope you like it!!

  11. I read Dark Places last month as well and didn't like it as much as her other two :( the twist was good but I couldn't get into it and didn't like the characters... Hush sounds like a good book, I'll have to add that to my list. :) Thanks!

  12. Dark Places is on my list to read, but now I need to add Hush, that sounds really good. I loved Eat, Pray, Love and thought the Pray part would make me not like it but it was really good.

Dark Places looks like a good read.

  15. Yeah, the characters in Dark were very unlikable. I think Charlize Theron will do a great job with the character in the movie this year because she kind of has that quality about her as well. lol! Gone Girl definitely seemed to move a lot faster than Dark Places did. I've never read Sharp Objects...you liked that one too? I have it on my "to read" list but never heard anyone talk about it yet

  16. Yeah, I found Hush at my local library on sale for 10 cents! The synopsis definitely pulled me in so I hope it's as good as it sounds. I wasn't sure about the Pray part of the book either, so hopefully I will be able to make it through that part

  17. It definitely keeps you intrigued and guessing. I don't think it was quite as fast paced as Gone Girl but I still enjoyed it

  18. I didn't even know there was a movie coming out until today haha not sure where I've been... ;) I actually liked Sharp Objects the most of all three. The characters are still unlike able but I think I just liked the story itself better. I couldn't put it down!

  19. I had Dark Places in my post today, too. I can't wait to see what Gillian Flynn does next!

I'm sure I've read Best Friends Forever because I usually read everything by Jennifer Weiner but the synopsis isn't ringing a bell. I'll have to figure that out. Hush sounds really good - might have to add that to my list!

  21. I don't think I've heard of that one actually... Dark Place doesn't have a movie release date yet but it's supposed to be in 2015, so you should have time to get to it before the movie. ;-)

  22. I thought Hush sounded really good too. I can't wait to start that one after The Martian. Have you ever read Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn?? I have that one on my "to read" list too but I haven't heard any reviews on it yet.

  23. Yes, I loved Sharp Objects as well! Another majorly messed up main character trying to solve a mystery that hits close to home, but it's still different from Dark Places. I highly recommend it!

  24. I loved Dark Places!!! And I read Best Friends Forever a few years ago and I remember liking it but not loving it as much as her other books. I'm going to have to recommend The Martian to my husband. That's totally his kind of book.

  25. I really loved To All The Boys... I can't wait for the next book to come out later this year. Gillian Flynn's books are all so dark and twisted, but I love them! I keep hearing about The Martian so I definitely have to add it to my list! I've also wanted to read Best Friends Forever for a long time.

I was hoping to get them all read by the end of the month but I'm not sure if that's going to happen. These migraines have been making it hard. We'll see, I guess!

  38. I've read Dark Places as well, because I loved Gone Girl. Now I think I will try reading her other novel Sharp Objects. Even though her books are really dark they are such page turners! Right now I'm reading a book called Wave, it's a memoir and it's a really good book so far!
