Thrifting adventures: Dress shopping

One of my favorite things to thrift shop for are dresses.  I feel like I only wear a fancy dress once or twice before I get rid of it so I don't want to have to spend an arm and a leg for it.

I have a couple weddings to go to this year so I've been trying to find something new to wear to them.  I also would like to find more comfy spring/summer dresses.  I used to have a bunch of them but I think they may have been donated by mistake....oops!

I took all of my photos in this post with my camera phone, so some of them didn't turn out to great.  Sorry about that!!  Also, be warned that I have a pretty mean RBF (resting bitch face)... you are forewarned! LOL!

Dress #1:  I really liked how this dress fit, but I felt like it was just a bit too short.  I actually pulled it down a bit just to take this picture. lol!  This one got left at the store.

Dress #2:  If you couldn't tell by my less than excited face in this picture, I was not a fan of how this one fit.  It bunched really strange in the bust.  This one go left behind in the store too.

Dress #3:  This red dress is actually an Express dress and the material is super soft and fit great.  Perfect little Spring/Summer dress. Bought $4.99

Dress #4:  This one was a New York & Company dress that fit okay, but I felt like I had something similar at home and I just wasn't overly excited by it.  Left it at the store.

Dress #5:  I saw this fun Loft dress on the rack, and really loved the colors so I thought I would give it a try.  It was a small but seemed really big on me.  Left it at the store.

Dress #6:  I saw this pretty navy dress and instantly loved it.  The detailing on the shoulder and waist was so pretty.  I have no idea where I will wear it but I bought this one for half off!  Only $3.99!  You can't beat that!!  I have a wedding to go to in September so maybe I will wear it there...or is it too fancy??  What do you think?

Total spent: $8.98 for 2 dresses!

Do you think I made good choices?  Is there something I should have kept but didn't?

  1. Omg you got some great deals! So I have bitchy resting face too... You are not alone! I think that last dress is perfect for a September wedding- it's a perfect transitional piece. It's gorgeous and can't believe you got it for $4!

  2. Thanks girl! I really loved that dress, I was just worried I would never wear it. I think I will plan to wear it to that wedding at the end of the year. My husband teases me about my RBF all the time. haha!

  3. RBF... hahahaha! I love that. {Mostly because I also have a mean RBF.} Totally feelin' ya on the possibility for the September wedding. It would be the perfect piece because your legs are covered if it's cold but you still have some skin showing. I really liked that red peplum topped dress but if it's too short, it was a good choice to leave at the store. #tallgirlprobs

  4. I love thrifting! I usually go with the intention of altering the piece I got, but I am totally with you on trying to save money... especially for one night! I actually really like the first dress that you did not purchase. However, I am also super self-conscious about things being too short, so I get why you didn't buy it... I also love the Express dress... their stuff is normally super expensive, so it is getting a dress for five dollars is insane!

  6. I really like the red dress that you bought! and wow $3.99 for dress #6 is a really good deal. I bought a long, dark blue dress from Ross before but I have never worn it. I forgot how much exactly I paid for it but it was such a good deal I couldn't leave it. Hmmmmm I actually forgot all about it until now, I really need to find somewhere to go so I can wear it :P

  9. I used to go with the intention of altering the pieces I got a bit, but now that my "to fix" pile has gotten a bit out of control I won't let myself buy anything else like that until I catch up. LOL! I am a huge fan of anything from Express so I figured I was going to like it. I normally only buy things from there during their huge sales. haha!

  11. I think that navy dress is so pretty! Hopefully I will be able to find an occasion to wear it, if I don't wear it to that wedding. I'm pretty sure I will tho! And if not it was so cheap!! lol

  13. I'm always surprised by how many great dresses I find at the thrift store. There must be a lot of ladies out there like me that only wear fancy dresses a few times. haha!

  14. haha I'm glad I'm not the only one suffering from RBF! LOL It's an ongoing joke between me and my husband. I'm pretty sure I am going to wear that to the wedding later this year. I think it would be good for that. And YES, #tallgirlprobs for the win! LOL Everything is too short on me, I swear!

  15. I'm always so amazed by all of your thrifting! Both dresses that you picked out look awesome, I really like the navy one, it looks great and it's such a steal. I think you could wear it to the wedding, depending on the kind of wedding that it is. I hope you get to wear it though because it's such an awesome find :)

  16. Wow!! You had some amazing finds!! I think you made great choices and I cannot believe how cheap they were. I do love the LOFT dress on you too, but what a bummer that it was too big. Oh well, you win some, you lose some!

  18. I really did love the colors in that LOFT dress but it was just way too big. I probably could have taken it in myself but I promised not to buy any more "fixer-uppers" until I work on the pile I already have. LOL

  19. Thanks!! I am in love with that navy one. It fit so perfect and I loved it as soon as I saw it. I still haven't gotten the details of the wedding in Sept. but as long as it's not super casual, I'm planning on wearing it then....and hopefully sooner if I can find somewhere else to wear it. lol

  22. Yay for thrifting posts! Thrifting is great for special events when you're only going to wear the dress once or twice. You tried on some great ones. I agree with your choices for sure! That red Express dress is perfect for summer date nights. That last dress is a STUNNER! If the wedding is in the evening, I bet you could totally wear it. It looks absolutely beautiful on you!

  23. haha! I thought you would like this one! I love that last one so much, I really hope I can find an event to wear it. I'm still not sure if they are planning there wedding for the day time or evening. I guess I could always wear it for my husband and I's anniversary!? I've worn that red dress a bunch of times already, I love it!
