My first attempt at pattern mixing

Over the weekend we were supposed to go ice skating, but the stupid place didn't list that they had games scheduled at the time we were trying to go.  So we went all the way out there for no reason....boo!  I was really excited about it because I've never ever been ice skating before and I wanted to give it a try.  Maybe it's a blessing in disguise because I would have fallen and hit my head and started my headaches over again...or something?  That's the way I'll look at it.

I've never been very good at pattern mixing, so I figured I would try a look that I've seen all over blogland and Pinterest: stripes and plaid.  I actually really love the way it looks.  I expected my OCD to have made me change the second I saw it on me, but I was pleasantly surprised.

That striped top is actually one that I picked up at the thrift store over the weekend for only $2!  You can't beat that!  I was able to get 7 shirts for only $22!  I need to go thrifting more often!

Do you enjoy thrift shopping?  Ever find any great deals?

  14. I love it! I am always pattern mixing... not because it's in style or cool, but because I can never find solid tops lol Like one time I went to the springs and I was wearing a white tank top with floral print and a flannel shirt over it, I remember I put it on instagram and people were saying they loved the pattern mixing... in my mind I was like "...I'm pattern mixing? Not on purpose. I just couldn't find my sold white tank top" haha

  15. hahaha! I think I'm just so OCD that I thought it would drive me crazy if I wore patterns that didn't "go", but I actually really liked this outfit and plan to try other patterns now. lol

  19. Looks great :) I think I may give that look a go - although It's going to have to warm up where I live before I think about going out without a coat! I think I like the idea for spring though?

  22. Stripes and plaid are such a great way to pattern mix! This is great! Shame you didn't get to go ice skating, it's my favorite thing to do in the winter! My poor skates haven't gone out in ages, being pregnant just doesn't mix with ice activities ;)

  25. I've actually never been ice skating before so it would have been my very first time. I was really excited to try, but maybe we can try again before winter is over. And yeah, pregnant ice skating is probably not a great idea. haha!

  29. I think it would definitely still work for spring! We've been having such crazy weather around here. It's been much "warmer" than it usually is at this time of year. And I won't lie...I had a leather jacket waiting for me in the car. haha

  30. Thank you so much! I had a lot of fun thrifting, I'm going to have to make it a monthly thing, I think.

  31. I had so much fun at the thrift store. I couldn't believe how cheap brand name items were. Every top was $4 and some were 50% off! Craziness!

  36. Great job mixing patterns! It's something that I generally try to stay away from because I don't think i'm good at it. I think floral would look really nice with stripes though? Maybe? This plaid and stripes is great though. And who doesn't love a plaid shirt?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Thanks! I think certain florals might look good with stripes...I might have to try that one. lol! I've been obsessed with plaid this year

  38. Plaid is one of my favorite patterns, for sure.
