OUTFIT: Braving the cold & a life update

Man, did it get COLD around here!  We were having a lot of strangely warm weather and I think I started to get spoiled with that or something because I am FREEZING!

I'm trying to force myself to stop taking indoor outfit shots because the lighting is so terrible...and I just like outdoor shots so much better.  I have to laugh at a few of these because I can tell I was super cold. Or I'm laughing at some of the faces I made because my hubby was making me laugh. haha!

These outfit photos were actually taken almost two weeks ago and I'm finally getting around to posting them now...  Man, I'm slacking!  I just had so much that I wanted to fit in last week!  I think it's funny that during these photos I thought it was so cold and I was freezing but now it is even colder and we even had some snow (finally!).

I got these cobalt skinnies for Christmas and I have been having so much fun making new outfits with them.  I love colored denim!

So, last week I told you that I went to see a new neurologist(headache specialist) for my migraines and they gave me a couple prescriptions.  Well, that didn't go so well....  The preventative medicine they gave me made me really spacey/dizzy, my heart was beating super hard and fast, I got NO sleep, I had horrible anxiety, I started sweating like crazy, and it felt like someone was stepping on my chest.  Needless to say, I will not be taking that again..

Since I was up all that night anyway, I started doing even more research on more natural ways to help with migraines and I came across a magnesium supplement.  It's supposed to help you sleep (which I've been having some problems with), lower anxiety, and can help with headaches.  So I think I may give that a try...and I'm also going to call the chiropractor and see if there's something that is "out" and causing this.  I also still have that brain scan coming up, so keep your fingers crossed for me!  I'm getting more and more nervous.

I also need some advice on how to put on some weight.  I've always had a really hard time putting on weight and since I've been sick I've lost quite a bit of weight.  Someone suggested Ensure drinks.  Have you ever tried them??  If so what are your thoughts?

Have you ever tried magnesium supplements?  Any tips on putting on some weight??

  1. Oh man girl, that's so so hard. I am so sorry you are going through this! Have you tried acupuncture to help with the headaches? It will also help with putting on the proper weight as well. It just gets everything all balanced out.

  2. Love the jeans!

I am sorry to hear about your migraines and wish you all the best. Could you keep a diary? Write down the time of day, pain severity etc, it might help your doctor.

  3. I love your cobalt skinnies and yes, SO cold around here! Enjoy the snow for me too because we haven't gotten any yet. So sorry about the prescription not working for the migraines but maybe the natural route is the way to go. You're in my prayers trying to figure all that out!

  5. I have yet to find cobalt skinnies. So jealous right now!
I totally feel for you, as I too get these awful migraines. They are going to try a million ways to understand what is causing them and it can be so frustrating when your in a horrible pain. I wrote down every single time I got it and what I ate that day (sometimes its the foods your eating). Also make sure your staying hydrated, because that is a BIG issue for me. Hope everything goes well for you!!

  7. Your outfit looks great (and I can't even tell you are cold!) but I am so sorry to hear you've been suffering with migraines! I don't think I've had a real migraine but I get horrible headaches sometimes and it's just so miserable. I hope you are able to find some relief!

  8. Thank you <3 I really do appreciate it. I'm going to keep trying to find some way of relief without having to rely on a prescription like that. Hopefully we get something figured out soon

  9. Thanks so much! I'm starting the magnesium today so we will see how it goes. I'm so happy I finally got a pair of skinnies. I've worn them quite a few times already

  10. I've been keeping a journal too but unfortunately the only thing that seems to be a trigger is my mentrual cycle. I guess when my hormones go crazy so do my migraines. I used to only get one or two migraines during that time but now it's the week before, during, and after. So I end up with only one "clear" week. It's miserable! I'm also trying to make it a point to drink more water too. Thanks for the suggestions. I really appreciate it <3

  12. Thanks Llinos!

I've been keeping a diary for a while now and unfortunately the only thing that seems to be a consistent trigger is my menstrual cycle. When my hormones go crazy so do the migraines. It used to be just the week of my period but now it's also the week before, during, AND after! So miserable!

  13. Thanks girl. I've never tried acupuncture. I have a huge fear of needles so it really scares me. lol! I'm a big ole sissy! I will have to read up on it and see if we can give that a try. I've been thinking of scheduling a chiropractor appt too...

  14. Love your cobalt skinnies. I have a pair, but they're totally worn out. I clearly loved them a lot! I'm so sorry to hear about your ongoing migraine problem. I hope the magnesium supplement helps. I'll be thinking of you!! As for gaining weight, I have the exact same problem. As I've gotten older, it's become really easy for me to drop weight if I'm stressed or not feeling well, so I have to be careful.

  15. I badly need a B+W Skull scarf. Love yours and of course I love cobalt paired with black+white. Too bad you suffer from migraines, so do I. Hope they get better soon.

  16. Outdoor photos are so hard in the winter! I always feel like I look cold too. I can't tell on you though, and I love your outfit. So sorry to hear you're still experiencing migraines. I tried the magnesium with mine. It might have helped some, but not significantly. Wishing you more luck! The preventative i take from my neurologist is called Topamax. Not sure what you tried, but it has worked well for me. Good luck!

  18. Thanks so much, they have definitely been miserable. I wear my skull scarf all the time...probably too often. LOL

  19. Thanks so much! I will definitely ask my doctor about that Topamax too. I think I'm going to at least try the magnesium for now, couldn't hurt. I really need something to work without making me feel awful. This has been miserable!

  20. I could never take outfit photos outside. if YOU think it's cold it must really be freezing... you should see what i wear when I go outside in the cold... double pants, 2 long sleeve shirts, a big coat and a scarf...lol!! that sucks the meds they gave you didn't help you :( I wish I could give you advice on how to gain weight but I also have that problem ...I've never been able to gain much!! >_< Hope everything goes well with the brain scan and I hope you feel better!

  21. Thanks so much. I really appreciate it <3 I'm just going to try to keep my mind off of the scan because that still really freaks me out. Today is a rare headache-free day so I'm going to take advantage and try to get some things done around this house...or start another artsy project..whatever comes first. lol!

  24. Julie I struggle with migraine too! I was seeing the neurologist a ton, and now I am to a point when I am seeing them only every 6 months. You kind of just have to find what medications work for you by trial and error (which sucks super hard).

Email me if you want to chat! I've learned some tips and tricks that I can definitely pass on to you! Or if you just need someone to talk to, who knows where you're at right now :)

I really would love a pair of cobalt blue pants!! I have been freezing during my outside pics, too, but I refuse to do inside ones!! The lighting in my house is horrible. I used to be really skinny and I have just found that as I've gotten older my metabolism has slowed down and I'm more at a normal weight now. I know that doesn't help you right now, but I would def. try the Ensure!

  33. I love the outfit! It looks like you will be so comfy!!!

  34. It's definitely a really comfy outfit. Thanks!

  35. Yeah, the lighting is horrible in my house too. I've done a few inside and always ended up hating them. I'm definitely going to give the Ensure a try and see if I like it or not. I DEFINITELY need to put on some weight.

  36. Thanks so much! Yeah, I've actually heard that too. Apparently magnesium is great for a variety of things like: restless leg syndrome, heart palpitations, migraines, digestion, nervousness, etc. I will definitely keep you updated

  37. Thanks so much! The brain scan still has me very nervous but I'm trying to be positive. I took the magnesium yesterday and got great sleep, I have a slight headache today but I guess I can't expect miracles right away. lol!

  38. love the color of your pants! i get migraines too, but mine are caused mostly by hormones and sometimes alcohol (even just one glass of wine!) i take imitrex for them and am currently tracking what i eat to see if that has anything to do with them. i was getting about 10/month and now i'm down to 5-6 being off the pill. (TMI? sorry!!) i hope you can figure out what's going on with yours and find a cure for them soon!!

  40. Most of mine seem to be hormone related too.... I wonder if I got off of the pill if it would help at all?? That's an interesting thought... And yes, I can't even drink any alcohol without getting a headache later. It really stinks.
