OUTFIT: What do I do with my hands?!

Every time I take an outfit shot I'm always wondering what to do with my hands.  So I end up in this really weird "frozen" look.  Do you ever do that?  I see so many fashion bloggers that make it look so effortless but I am so awkward.  That is definitely something I am going to try to work on this year, getting more comfortable in front of the camera.  I've always been the one that takes the pictures.  Never the one on the other side....if I could help it!

I just threw this look together really quickly before heading out the door for dinner with my family, but I actually really love it.  This is the very first peplum top that I've ever owned (because for the longest time I didn't want to give in) and I really like the way it flatters me.  I was worried I would be too tall for it or something.

Top: Express  |  Pants: Charlotte Russe  |  Necklace: Premier Jewelry  |  Bracelet: local craft fair  |  Boots: JC Penney

Have you ever tried a peplum top?  What are some fashion trends that you avoided?

  1. That is a lovely peplum top, I'm glad you decided to give the peplum trend a try! It looks really nice on you :)

I solve that blog problem in my photos too - one hand on my handbag, and the other on the remote for the camera, so that way I always have something to do with my hands, haha!

  5. I feel like that about my hands too. I love the top and jewellery! I resisted peplum for ages but now I have a top I really like.

  6. Ha, this is part of why I don't take anything besides mirror pics. It seems WAY too hard to figure out how to pose and make it look natural! You look great here and the peplum top is totally flattering on you!

  9. Love the color blocking on the top. Great accessories. It's always easier to have a clutch or something to hold on to with your hands. I feel the same way when I do outfits without a bag. ~Cynthia

  11. I never actually noticed, you always look great. I also find it awkward in front of the camera. For me, having a handbag to hold helps. Happy New Year to you. You look fab today, love the colour of your sleeves!

  14. Lol! Great title. But I think we've all been there with not knowing how to post. I think the best thing is to study those bloggers who make it look so effortless. My problem is remembering it when i'm in front of the camera. I love your peplum top! It's not an overdone flare and it looks really good on you :)

  15. I totally relate - this is the main reason why I normally like to be holding a bag - or even my jacket lapel or my pocket! Just to give my hands a purpose, otherwise, I look odd! But I wouldn't have thought that at all with your photos, silly! The colorblock peplum is adorable on you! Carylee | more pieces of me

  20. Yeah, I am definitely going to have to start showing my bag in outfit posts, just so I have something to hold onto. lol! And thank you! I think that everyone is their own worst critic, that's all. And that is one amazing giveaway!!! I entered this morning and I will have my fingers crossed! lol

  23. You look lovely! I feel that sometimes until I start fixing my hair lol Definitely having something to hold solves that problem, or just place your hands at your tiny waist :) That peplum top looks amazing on you!

  24. That's what I'm going to try to do. I started a Pinterest board of different poses to try. lol! Sounds goofy but I think it will help!

  25. Definitely going to have to try holding something for one of my next ones. Thanks!

  26. Thanks so much! I will just have to start trying new things, I guess! Practice makes perfect!

  27. A lot of bloggers pose with a bag or clutch. I always am relieved to have a pocket or I grab onto the front of a coat or vest. The only problem with that is then I start repeating the same pose in every outfit, haha. Cute outfit, that top looks perfect on you!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Haha, I totally know what you mean about the hand posing! I always either touch my hair or put my hand on my hip or something, but I look back at my photos and get annoyed. Then I try to take some the next time with my hands just at my sides and those look silly too! :) Love your top too- the colorblocking is cute!

    ReplyDelete
  29. haha that's true. I never thought of that. I probably would start to use the same pose over and over. And thank you so much!

    ReplyDelete
  30. haha! It's a lot harder than it looks! I've always felt really awkward in front of the camera.

  31. Hahahaha I'm so awkward in front of the camera too! All my poses are the same and apparently I hold my hands in my fists! I don't even know I'm doing it! If you figure out a secret of what to do with your hands let me know!

I only own one peplum tank top and it's not my favorite. It looks awkward on me I think but it could be because my hips are SO much bigger than my waist and I feel like it doesn't flatter me. Yours looks fantastic! I like all the different colors.

  32. The peplum top looks amazing on your tall frame! So pretty!

  33. I'm so glad I'm not the only one! haha! And thank you so much! This peplum definitely changed my mind a bit

    ReplyDelete
  34. haha! Maybe I should start trying that myself! And thanks so much!

  35. Thanks girl! And I agree sometimes it's better when you don't overthink an outfit.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Thank you so much! I didn't think I was going to like it as much as I do.

  37. I knew that top was from Express since I have a sleeveless version of it colorblocked with mint+navy. I love it. Cute bracelet also. A lot of times I also don't know what to do with my hands.

    Happy New Year Julie!

  38. I think you look great! I always find that having a bag to hold on to or some other kind of prop always saves me (sometimes) from looking totally uncomfortable in my pics :)

  41. Thanks so much Shauna! I will definitely give the bag or prop thing a shot for next time. Maybe having something to hold will make me more comfortable. Thanks for the suggestion!

  42. Anytime! It seems to help me when I just don't know what to do with my weird hands :)

  43. I catch myself making fists a lot too. LOL! Or I'm just doing something super weird with them. I really didn't think I was going to like the peplum top at all but I really do like this one. I tried a solid color one and didn't like it as much.
