ART: Groot and Rocket from Guardians of the Galaxy

I FINALLY created some new artwork!  It's been over 2 months since I painted anything!  The last portrait I painted was Catwoman in Febuary and then Leeloo (The Fifth Element) back in January!  I've only painted 2 portraits so far this year?!  How did that happen?!  That's horrible!

Anyway, I'm going to try to get back into the habit of creating and sharing my artwork 2-4 times a month.  I would love to have something new each week but I'm not sure if I'll be able to do that.

I actually got the idea to paint Groot and Rocket from my friend.  I asked all of my friends on Facebook, which hero/villian should I paint next and this was one of the ones that everyone seemed the most excited about, so I gave it a shot.  This watercolor painting took me around 4 hours to complete.

Progress photos:

Who should I paint next?  I would love some ideas!!

Here are some that I've already done, just in case you missed them:

(those are just a few that I've done recently, I didn't want to go too link crazy and drive you nuts!)

Finally some new art: Catwoman Watercolor

I have really dropped the ball lately with creating artwork once a week.  I think my inspiration just comes and goes, and I was having an "off" moment.  I'm going to try to get better with creating something new every week for Friday.

Anyway, Wednesday night I sat down and created this watercolor portrait of Catwoman.  It's been almost a month since I've created something so I was a little bit rusty.  However, this one only took me about 2 and a half hours to do.

I wanted to continue with my "comic book series".  I've already painted, Ironman, Black Widow, and Wolverine so I thought I would add a DC comic character into the mix.  I've always love Catwoman, and I will always believe that Michelle Pfeiffer was the best one (sorry, Halle Berry and Anne Hathaway!!).

Here are a couple progress shots:

I also did an acrylic painting of Nancy Callahan (Jessica Alba) from a comic/movie called Sin City.  I'm kind of a big comic nerd, I guess. haha!

Who do you think should be my next comic character? Who do you think played the best Catwoman??

Leeloo (The Fifth Element) watercolor portrait

I finished another watercolor painting!  I sat down and forced myself to do it, and I'm so glad I did.  It was so relaxing to take a little "me" time and paint a scene from one of my favorite movies.

Just in case you don't know, this painting is from The Fifth Element starring Bruce Willis and Milla Jovovich.  Milla plays Leeloo in the movie.  It's a strange Sci-fi movie but I really love it.  Maybe it's my crush on Bruce Willis... who knows!!

Unfortunately, I completely forgot to take progress photos...fail!  But here is a reference photo just in case you've never seen the movie.

What do you think??  Have you ever seen the Fifth Element?

ART: "If you're a bird, I'm a bird" & a giveaway!

Well, I did it!  I finally got around to painting my first piece of art this year!  I'm way out of practice so this definitely isn't my best but I feel better now that I've done it.  I'm always so much less stressed out after painting.

Yesterday I had an appointment with a new neurologist for my crazy migraines, and I was super nervous about it.  She gave me something to help with the pain and also something to hopefully help prevent them.  She was very concerned with how much worse they have gotten over the past few months, and I've also lost close to 15 pounds (which I REALLY didn't need to do) so she is also scheduling a brain scan....which is pretty scary.  Until then I am going to try to put weight back on....somehow.  I thought about trying those Ensure shakes.  Has anyone out there tried them before??  Anything else you suggest?  I'm also going to try to start working out more to get some muscle weight on me.

Anyway, back to the art!  This is the second piece from The Notebook that I've created.  The first one was an acrylic painting from the "kiss in the rain" scene.  You can see that one HERE.

I painted this one in about 2-3 hours.  If I would have taken a little more time on it, I probably would be happier with it.  Oh well, it got me back into the rhythm so I'm looking forward to creating more soon!

Here are a few progress shots:

2014 was a big year for my art, and I feel like this blog is the reason for that.  I started my blog almost exactly a year ago and it really keeps me motivated to keep creating more art.

Let's hope 2015 is even better!!

New Art!!

It's been so long since I've created any new artwork (not counting my painted bulbs)!  My husband's friend from work loved my art so much (he bought my The Notebook painting) that he actually contacted me about painting something really special for him.  He was going to propose to his girlfriend and wanted me to create a couple pieces for him.  He had an idea to create 3 separate silhouette paintings.  There was going to be a silhouette of her walking, another of him walking with his dog, and then the center one was going to have him on one knee with her standing in front of him.  How sweet is that?!  It was all his idea, I just made it come to life on the canvas.  Take a look..

So basically this is what it would end up looking like when you get them together...

Painting pumpkins!

Earlier this week I decided to FINALLY paint my pumpkins!  Yeah, I've really been a slacker this year!  Sometimes I decide to carve them and sometimes I paint them.  This year I wanted to make something for my daughter.  After she went to bed I sketched out this Minnie and Mickey design because she LOVES them.  When I finished it, I couldn't wait to show her in the morning!

Needless to say, she was a very happy girl in the morning!

I also painted a quick little owl pumpkin.  She is just as obsessed with owls as I am so I thought she would enjoy that too!  It's pretty sloppy but she could definitely tell what it was

Here is her little excited face when she got up in the morning...   excuse her bedhead, she was a sleepy girl. lol!  She kept screaming Meenee and KeeKee ( Minnie and Mickey) and Whoo whoo, for the owl.  She was a happy girl

Here are our pumpkins from previous years:

Jack and Sally from Nightmare before Christmas

aaaand I even painted a Nightmare Before Christmas pumpkin... I am a little obsessed. LOL

Did you carve or paint pumpkins this year??

Iron Man watercolor painting

Hi everyone!!  It has been WAY too long since I created something new so I forced myself to sit down and paint last night.  I decided to stick to the comic book theme that I've had going lately and paint Iron Man/Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.).  It took me close to 4 hours to do....

What do you think??

This was my reference photo...for those who haven't seen the Iron Man movies.  I lightened him up a lot more in my painting.

Here are some progress shots.  I wish I would have taken more, but I didn't even think about it until I already had the face done.

Wolverine watercolor painting

It's been a while since I created a new painting, so last night I sat down and forced myself to create something... and I'm actually pretty happy with the way it turned out.  It took me around 5 hours from start to finish.

I have always been a bit of a comic book dork.  Wolverine was always my favorite character, so I had to try him.

I think I may have goofed a little bit on his mouth but I like the way the eyes turned out!  What do you think?

I am going to try to get back into creating something artistic every week... I hope I can stand by that!  I always feel so much better and less stressed out after creating something new.

A couple progress shots

Do you like comic books or the comic book movies??  If so, who is your favorite character?

Horned Owl watercolor painting

It's been a couple weeks since I posted some of my new art.  I've been really busy working on my Etsy shop (post coming up about that soon, so stop back!).

I've still been trying to improve on my watercolor skills, so I decided I wanted to try an animal.  Owls are my absolute favorite so I started with a horned owl.

Here are some progress shots:

My daughter is just as obsessed with owls as I am, so I think I may frame this one and put it in her bedroom.  She even has a big pink stuffed animal owl that she sleeps with.  It's almost as tall as she is! haha!

I'm actually pretty happy with the way this one turned out, especially for it being my first try!

"You know nothing, Jon Snow" watercolor painting

Hi everyone!  I'm back again with another watercolor portrait.  I decided to stick with the Game of Thrones theme and try Jon Snow, mostly because all of the ladies I know were begging me too. haha!

Here is a close-up of my finished portrait...

This is the whole painting.  I don't think it's my best but I still kind of like it.  I don't paint too many men so that's always a challenge for me, and I'm still learning watercolors so it's not too bad.  I have a hard time getting the shadows as dark as I would like them to be.  Something is also a little off on the face but since I have been staring at it for a couple hours I can't figure out what it is.  Maybe the eyes??

Here are a couple progress shots

Here is a reference photo for the people who may not watch Game of Thrones:

Game of Thrones watercolor portrait

I'm still trying to get a little bit better with watercolor so I wanted to attempt another portrait.  This time I tried Daenerys/Khaleesi from Game of Thrones.

Ignore the line under her eye... the paint found a rough spot on the paper and stuck to it. lol!  It's definitely not perfect and I've got a lot of learning to do but I think you can at least tell who it is supposed to be!  Maybe??  Okay, if not here is the image I used to draw and paint it.

Sorry, I don't have any progress photos for this one.  I didn't have much time so I kind of took it and ran with it until it was done.

My husband is SUPER obsessed with this show.  I have a love/hate relationship with it...  If you've ever watched it then you probably know why.  Any time you start to like a character they die or something completely awful happens to them!  I think the only reason I still watch is because it's like a train wreck and I can't look away.  I HAVE to know what happens to the characters and that keeps me watching.

Are there any shows out there that you love to hate??

Maleficent watercolor painting

It's been a little while since I created some art and I wanted to really challenge myself.  I'm still learning how to paint with watercolors and this was my first attempt at a portrait.

I have always been a really huge Disney fan so I was super excited to hear about them recreating this classic.  Maleficent was the scariest bad guy in any Disney movie, in my opinion.  I also love that they used Angelina Jolie in it because I am a HUGE fan.

I haven't seen the movie yet but it is definitely on my list!!

Here are a few progress shots:

A couple cartoony doodles

I have something completely different than what I normally share for you today.  Normally when I share my art it is some sort of realistic portrait.  This week I wanted to try something new.

A few months ago my best friend's mom asked me if I could create a logo for the business that she was started.  She plans parties for children, makes gift baskets, and dresses up in character costumes for the parties.  She also does a lot of work for charities and shows up at hospitals dress in costumes just to make kids smile.

She asked me to create something cartoony.  She had almost an exact idea in her head of what she wanted.  She wanted a girl and boy, to represent her son and daughter.  She also wanted to add a little yellow butterfly as a remembrance of a family member.  The little boy in the drawing was supposed to be holding balloons and the little girl holding a gift basket.  She wanted a "Precious Moments" kind of look to them, and also knew she wanted them to be in pastel colors.

To get the pastel color look I used watercolors and just diluted them a bit.

While my daughter was taking her nap I felt like doodling a little, so I drew a couple Disney Princesses. haha!  Not my best work but I thought I would share anyway!

Finally had a little time for drawing

After putting the baby to sleep last night, I decided to stay up for a little bit to try a charcoal portrait of Mila Kunis.

I always use my art as a way of unwinding after a stressful day/week.  Paige is in the middle of teething so she's been pretty frustrating and moody for the past couple days.

So, what do you think??

Baby date in the park and more artsy ideas

We had a day over the weekend that wasn't too cold (we thought) so we decided to go to the park with our friends and their little one.  When we got there we realized it was much colder than we thought it was...it started getting really windy.  I was glad we all had extra coats in the car!
Paige is always finding sticks and leaves to play with.  She ran around for almost 2 hours.  She barely stopped long enough for pictures!  I had so many of her in a blur because she would be running away. haha!

I also made a quick little doodle of a Native American in pen.  He is an idea that i have for a new painting.  I'm thinking of redoing our bedroom with a Native American theme...Although I may change my mind a billion more times until then. haha!  I'm probably the most indecisive person in the world

Sometimes life gets in the way..

Hi again everyone!!  I have been working like crazy, so I missed Paint Party Friday last week and now I'm late for this week's!  I'm going back down to part time next week so hopefully that will give me more time to create some art.  I have a new painting idea and I've been really excited to start it.

Anyway, for this week's PPF, I decided to do a quick watercolor painting of Marilyn Monroe.  I used purple and blue and decided to do it a little differently than most of my others.  I wanted to use the white for her face instead of the usual white negative space in the background.  What do you think??

Can't wait to see what everyone else created this week!!!

The end of the challenge...until Sept!

I was so excited to join the 29 Faces Challenge last month.  I got to meet a lot of new bloggers/artists and it kept me motivated to create new art.  I really enjoyed trying a bunch of different mediums to create all of these faces.  Here are some of the faces I created for this past month's challenge:

I can't wait until September to "attend" again.  In the meantime, I would love to keep in touch with everyone who was creating so expect to see my name popping up in the comments!
